• Mixed Media Workshop at Pocosin Arts

Join me on December at Pocosin Arts for a two-day mixed media painting workshop! Students in this class will use a variety of media to create paintings that explore our own stories. Working on paper with watercolor as our base, we will use personal imagery to make small paintings using both wet and dry media.

Playful experimentation is encouraged while we explore composition and design, and materials that will include watercolor, acrylic, collage, charcoal, graphite, and image transfer. Bring your imagination!

Find out more by visiting pocosinarts.org. Class takes place on Friday December 9 & Saturday December 10.

  • CANary Row Exhibit

Dare County Arts Council is pleased to host the works of Outer Banks artists Julie Moye, Shirley Ruff, and Fay Davis Edwards for the month of August 2016. Their show, CANary Row, features new works in tin collage, and is a playful collection of colorful, mixed media art with the unifying element of tin cans. CANary Row will be on display August 5 – August 30, 2016. Regular gallery hours are 10am – 6pm, Monday through Friday, and noon until 4pm on Saturdays.

Please join us for the opening reception of CANary Row on Friday, August 5 from 6pm – 8pm at the DCAC Gallery. We will feature live music, light fare, and cool libations for a hot summer day. Nu Blu headlines the night as part of the Pickin’ on the Porch series and we have Mojo Collins & Triple Vision at the courthouse.

Multi-media artist Julie Moye works in many mediums, including oils, watercolors, mosaic with tiles and glass, pottery, and concrete. Julie works in the medium of the day in order to vent her creativity. Much of her work is on display at KDH Cooperative gallery and studios, a business she envisioned and opened in May of 2001.

Shirley Ruff moved to North Carolina to pursue life as an oil painter, Outer Banks style. Ruff is a native Nebraskan and as a child was an avid swimmer. She competed on swim teams in both summer and winter. Now living five hundred feet from the Atlantic Ocean Shirley is provided not only with many swimming opportunities, but with a wealth of subject matter, color and composition that is reflected in her paintings. Ruff’s work continues to evolve through constant exploration and practice. Mrs. Ruff retired from twenty five years of teaching art with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art Education.
